Polyurethane Resin Floors: The Advantages

At MCG Epoxy Coatings Ltd, we specialise in providing companies with epoxy coatings and floor screeds, having provided resin and polyurethane flooring systems all over the UK for over ten years. Today we’re going to focus on the benefits of polyurethane resin floors.

Despite the higher price point of a polyurethane system, in comparison to epoxy, it is bound to be a great long-term investment as it is twice as durable, offering an approximate lifespan of a decade. Whilst there are different purposes for each, this type of flooring is best for areas with a lot of foot traffic, as well as car parks and food factories as it is softer and elasticated. Read on to find out more advantages of installing polyurethane flooring.

It’s Highly Durable

Polyurethane resin floor systems offer an increased wear, abrasion, and impact resistance properties. As it is so strong and hardwearing, it is useful for use in environments where there are heavy loads and lots of traffic. They also provide a greater resistance to fats, acids and other chemicals when compared to high build and self-smoothing epoxy floors, making them one of the most versatile flooring choices.

It Offers UV Stability

It differs to epoxy in that polyurethane is UV stable. The properties of aliphatic polyurethanes mean that sunlight won’t cause the surface to fade or yellow, so it won’t discolour if sunlight comes through the window, or if the flooring is used outside.

It is Low-Maintenance

As the amount of maintenance required for a polyurethane flooring system is minimal, it is great for busy environments that can’t afford to have any downtime for cleaning, such as those which operate 24-hours a day. It can withstand steam cleaning and pressure washing, so areas which are regularly subjected to high volumes of waste can be clean in a fast yet thorough way.

It Can Tolerate Heat

Polyurethanes also offer superior heat, cold and thermal shock tolerance. This also ties into the cleaning methods as steam cleaning, which involves heating water past the boiling point. It works by using pressurized steam to loosen dirt and kill dust mites, mould, staph, and other allergens and harmful bacteria. The high-heat moisture then dries quickly, so it’s thanks to being able to withstand this heat that it can be cleaned so quickly.

It’s Very Flexible

This type of flooring provides good flexibility, as it can accommodate minor movement without the brittleness of epoxy systems.
